More than a year after the death of longtime owner Regina Smith, Sō Restaurant in Hillcrest is under new ownership. Smith’s family has signed the restaurant over to Nick Copeland, who first started working at Sō 18 years ago. Copeland left for a while but returned to Sō’s kitchen two years ago, and Smith’s husband decided to entrust him with the restaurant. In a Facebook post, Copeland said he is dedicated to preserving and revamping Sō for the Smith family and for the fans of the restaurant.
There is another brunch spot in town. 42 Bar and Table, located in the base of the Clinton Presidential Center, is launching Sunday brunch service beginning father’s day (this weekend). The menu is set to include sharable breakfast appetizers, Candied Bacon, and Crepes along with a build-your-own Bloody Mary Bar and a Bubbly Bar. The service will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m on Sundays.
Speaking of brunch, with the Arkansas Art Center closing for renovations, the Watercolor is moving their brunch over to their sister restaurant Petit & Keet. That service begins on July 14 and will run from 10:30-2pm.
It’s been on-again and off-again for years now, but it appears that Rocky’s To Go is officially on for a new grand opening. The new business name is Rocky’s on Country Club, named after its upcoming location on 117 Country Club Road in Sherwood. If that sounds familiar to you, it’s less than a block away from the spot Rick’s Beignets used to set up. Rocky’s on Country Club is still under construction, but owner Joel Dunlap is still shooting for an opening day before July 1. Rocky’s was once a dive bar in North Little Rock that gained acclaim for its Philly cheesesteak sandwiches before closing in 2013. Dunlap brought back his cheesesteaks last year out of the ARKitchen commercial kitchen in Little Rock. In addition to cheesesteaks and other sandwiches, Rocky’s on Country Club will focus on Italian classics like lasagna, ravioli and carbonara
Happy first birthday to Cathead’s Diner, which will celebrate its anniversary tomorrow. Donnie Ferneau started the restaurant together with Sweet Love’s Kelli Marks, who has since departed. The diner is best known for its meat-and-three setup, but Ferneau has expanded Cathead’s hours to include dinner service on Fridays (though that’s been recently postponed to accommodate private parties and catering). Tomorrow, stop by and get a free slice of cake until Cathead’s runs out.
And we mentioned this earlier this week in our Growlers feature, but tonight would be a good evening to head to Flyway Brewing for a pint. From 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., Flyway will donate 100% of all pint sales to the American Red Cross to help with flood relief from the recent Arkansas River flooding. The flood has caused extensive damage to homes and businesses along the banks of the Arkansas River, and Flyway hopes to ease some of the burden those people will doubtlessly experience. In addition, anybody who takes home a sandbag from Flyway will be entered to win one of 10 $20 gift cards. This is great beer for a truly great cause, and I hope Flyway is packed this evening.
