Rumbles: Capi Peck Runs for City Board, Three Sams Stays Alive, Filipino Pop-Up Dinner Set

News
It’s been out there for a couple of weeks, but Trio’s Restaurant owner Capi Peck this week officially declared her candidacy for Little Rock’s Board of Directors. Peck will be running in Ward 4 for the seat currently held by Brad Cazort. Peck has owned Trio’s for three decades now and has been actively involved in politics, serving on the Public Health Advisory Board and chairing the Little Rock Advertising and Promotion Commission.
Three Sams BBQ Joint now has a regular schedule for the concession trailer selling barbecue outside of the now-closed restaurant. Three Sams will be open from the trailer every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday starting at lunchtime and going until they run out of food. You remember last month Three Sams was destroyed in a fire that started in one of the smokers behind the restaurant. Since then, the business has gotten by through catering events, selling out of the trailer and support from the community.
The Filipino pop-up dinner we told you about last week now has a solid date and location. Chef Yana Gilbuena will bring her Salo Series pop-up dinner to the former 1620 Savoy space on Sunday, May 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are on sale now. Salo Series has held pop-up dinners in all 50 states, including last year here in Arkansas. The event features multiple courses served on banana leaves without any utensils. It’s a unique event that you should consider attending.
Red Door and Loca Luna chef and owner Mark Abernathy is heading to Georgia as a featured chef at the Atlanta Food and Wine Festival June 2–5. Abernathy will be teaching a class on cooking greens, both in the traditional southern style and in other unconventional methods. Abernathy joins Scott Baker and Rob Nelson from Bentonville’s Tusk and Trotter as Arkansas’ representatives at the event.
