Arkansas Cornbread Festival Essay Contest

It is our honor to partner with the Arkansas Cornbread Festival and the UALR Department of English for the second time for the Cornbread Festival’s Food, Culture, and Storytelling Competition.
The Food, Culture, and Story Telling Competition is about the intersection of food, culture, and community in the South. Think of sitting around the table with friends eating a casual meal (probably including cornbread) and telling a good story. Submissions can be fiction, non-fiction, or poetry.
Submissions will be judged by a panel of scholars and authors selected from the UALR Department of English and winning entries will be posted here, on Rock City Eats. Here are the winning entries from the previous competition. Winners will also be invited to read their entry at a special event on October 22nd at South on Main.
This year’s competition adds two new categories in addition to the college student competition. The Cornbread Lover category is for youth in grades 6-12. The traditional category, Hot Skillet Cornbreader, is open for any current college student. Finally, the Cornbread Aficionado category is open without age limits for anyone wanting to submit.
Entries may be submitted here between now and October 6th.
