The Arkansas Arts Center’s annual Delta Exhibition, which features some of the state and surrounding region’s best artist, begins Friday June 10 – August 28.
“Each year Delta garners a lot of excitement because it provides Arkansas Arts Center patrons with the opportunity to experience the region’s talented contemporary artists,” said Arkansas Arts Center Executive Director Todd Herman.
The Delta Exhibition was founded in 1958 to feature contemporary work by artists born in or currently living in Arkansas and bordering states. The 58th Annual Delta Exhibition has grown to encompass works in all media and is a showcase for the dynamic vision of the artists of the Mississippi Delta region.
Elizabeth K. Garvey will serve as juror for the 58th Annual Delta Exhibition. Garvey is the co-founder and owner of Garvey-Simon Art Access, Inc. She has been a fine art dealer and advisor in New York City for over 20 years. Garvey maintains a boutique gallery in Manhattan that is focused on drawing, works on paper, unusual materials and design; while also acting as curator and advisor to select private clients.
Garvey selected 52 artworks by 30 artists, representing nine states. They were chosen out of 1,038 entries by 457 artists. She will assign a $2,500 Grand Award and two $750 Delta Awards. Additionally, a $250 Contemporaries Delta Award will be selected by the Contemporaries, an auxiliary membership group of the Arkansas Arts Center.
Artists and AAC members are invited to attend a special reception and exhibition preview on Thursday, June 9 during which the 58th Annual Delta winners will be announced. Garvey will deliver a lecture and announce the winners at 6 p.m. in the Lower Lobby Lecture Hall. Guests will then been invited to the Jeannette Edris Rockefeller and Townsend Wolfe Galleries to view the exhibition.
The 58th Annual Delta Exhibition is sponsored by Isabel and John Ed Anthony, Mrs. Lisenne Rockefeller, Bank of the Ozarks, Delta Regional Authority/Delta Leadership Institute, JPMS Cox, Dianne and Bobby Tucker, Bill and Kay Patton, Terri and David Snowden and the AAC Contemporaries. The Grand Award is supported by The John William Linn Endowment Fund. The exhibition is supported by the Andre Simon Memorial Trust in memory of everyone who has died of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).
