The River Market’s At The Corner, the funky finer diner we’ve all come to know and love, is a breath of fresh air. Step in, sit down and have a meal, and you’re likely to get to know the family that runs the joint. All this while enjoying quality service and delectable food.
Spring means fresh produce, and thus – new menus. The team at the eatery is proud to present new breakfast, lunch and brunch menus. We stopped by recently to check out the eats. Trust me when I say you’re going to want to try more than a few things from each menu.
First up, breakfast. Sit back and enjoy a cup of French press coffee while perusing the menu. Start with one of the newer items – the Wafflewich. Co-owner and head chef Kamiya Merrick says, “This is something innovative we wanted to add to our breakfast since we don’t have Chicken and Waffles on weekdays.”
Co-owner Leila King adds, “It’s something we’ve played around with as a breakfast special … It’s definitely sweet and savory, the batter is maple infused.” Pick your protein – sausage, bacon, or authentic Canadian bacon – and enjoy with a folded egg and cheese in sandwich form.
If you’re wanting a lighter option, you can’t go wrong with the simple, yet satisfying Avocado toast. In fact, there’s a whole toast section to the menu to help you jump-start your day. Leila explains, “To me it’s a very summery dish, it’s kind of a lighter option.” That’s not all, the dish comes topped with a sunny up egg and served on Arkansas Fresh bread.
If you’re feeling indecisive – you can’t go wrong with the crowd favorite – The Up And At Em. The dish has been on the menu since opening, it’s a showcase in breakfast goodness – a traditional breakfast plate with farm fresh eggs served sunny side up amidst bacon, toast, and cheese grits. The grits are done “Grandmother’s way” – yet another touch of the owners sharing their upbringing with you.
For lunch, go with the Turkey Burger. The meat is ground in-house, which guarantees a juicy patty, plus paired with avocado, lettuce and in-house chipotle aioli you’re going to be in heaven. The sandwich comes with house-cut chips, but you can always opt for the Home Fries or the “Fiddlestix.”
Helen Grace King laughs, “We just name things after what we called them growing up.” Leila adds, “People usually order the Fiddlestix to share.”
The great thing about the eatery is that if you want to go lighter, you can. For lunch grab the fresh Corner Caprese Salad, made with house made mozzarella, and I promise, your taste buds will thank you.
Don’t forget brunch. The eatery is rolling out summer brunch hours – Saturdays from 8:30 until 2 and Sunday from 10 to 2. Brunch means delights like the Chicken and Waffle – hand breaded fried chicken atop a sweet waffle – and your choice of burgers as well. Also, pay attention to that Canadian Bacon. Kamiya explains, “It’s actually called p meal bacon. We cure the pork loin and maple and some other ingredients and roll it in corn meal.”
Don’t forget to treat yo’self. Right now you can choose between a delicious chocolatey, boozy buttercream cupcake featuring Rock Town’s Coffee Liqueur and Schlalfy’s Double Bean Blonde Beer. The strawberry shortcake comes with fresh berries atop freshly made cream topped with mint from Momma Helen’s garden.
Helen Grace says it best: “We live in Arkansas and we have rich soil with lots of great produce and we’ve built all these great relationships with farmers and we are able to feature that. And so you’ll see that all over our menu.
Kamiya and Leila add, “We’re really excited about that.”
Get over to At The Corner from Tuesday – Friday from 7 to 2, Saturday 8:30 to 2, and Sunday from 10 to 2.
