B Street Rib Off Raises Big Money for Cancer

Our favorite little BBQ competition for good, B Street Rib Off, finished crunching the numbers today following their April 2nd competition. The organization doubled their previous fundraising efforts, raising $11,000 for the American Cancer Society of Arkansas.
B Street started in 2008 as a friendly cooking competition, and in 2010 organized into a non-profit to raise funds for charity. The American Cancer Society was selected due to each member of the board of directors being impacted in some way due to cancer.
“We’re really proud of the work we put in this year. Not only did we have a sold out event, but we broke our attendance record and doubled our giving record from past events,” said Jeremy Hinton, president of the B. Street Rib Off. “This is the only competition that forgoes cash prizes to donate funds to a local organization. We’re really proud of that and we believe it contributes to our success,” said Hinton.
This year also broke previous attendance records thanks, in part, to increase activities for the public to engage in. In addition to the BBQ competition, the event featured live music, food trucks, local craft beer from Flyway Brewing and a raffle that with nearly 100 items from Arkansas retailers. Event attendees were treated to BBQ by way of the People’s Choice category, which could be judged for a small donation.
The event also saw a record number of competitors with 24 competing for the rib competition. Drummin Up Some Que walked away with the prize in the rib category. Southern Gentlemen won the chicken, and Up in Smoke won the people’s choice award. A full list of winners and runners-up below.
