Can You Keep Up? Busy Times in Little Rock Food Scene

In case you haven’t noticed, there’s been a lot going on over the past thirty days in our burgeoning food scene. And, as a staff, we’ve tried our very best to keep you up-to-date and informed with all the happenings. But …  just in case you missed anything, here’s a recap of everything that has gone down.
Greg Henderson got the first peek inside The Southern Gourmasian’s brick-and-mortar downtown restaurant. From what we can tell, the space is absolutely gorgeous and if Chef Justin Patterson can replicate the fabulous food truck dishes he’s been churning out the past few years, the new restaurant should be a hit.
Not all big news in Little Rock was exclusive to restaurants. Perhaps the most exciting opening was the new Whole Foods Market, which found the mega-chain relocating from its old digs on Rodney Parham to a slightly bigger, more updated facility on Bowman Road. So far and as expected, early crowds have been quite large, along with generally positive shopper feedback. I was just there last night and can tell you the fish counter, alone, makes this grocery store a wonderful addition.
Pizza lovers, rejoice, you’ve got another spot to add to your growing list of options around Little Rock. SoMa’s Piro Brick Oven & Barroom opened in late February and Daniel Walker was on top of this story from the very beginning. Heck, D-Walk has even dined at the two-week-old establishment.
Did you know there’s a new restaurant about to open up in the heart of downtown (where the old Hop Diner used to be)? Becca Bona has your First Look of At The Corner. I actually got to sit in on the meeting, see the new space, and meet the fine folks who will run the place–very promising all the way around. Hint: poutine is on the menu.
In case you missed it, the Sushi Café West opened two weeks ago. I was able to sneak in prior to the opening, snap a few pics, and talk with general manager Robert Tju. The space is modern and clean with an intimate vibe and a generally hip atmosphere. Check out my piece, which includes the menu specific for the WLR location.
Just down the way from Sushi Café … Sunrise Café also got going in February. The place offers a variety of pastries, so you knew it would only be a matter of hours before our resident sweet tooth, Daniel Walker, was knocking on Sunrise’s door.  Here’s his full report on what you can expect from the new restaurant.
Daniel Walker not only brought you the First Look inside Boulevard Bistro & Bar, but he was also able to stop in for a wonderful dinner. Dan’s not easy to please, so these glowing words certainly speak well for Boulevard’s latest venture.
While 109 & Co. has been open for several weeks, some recent additions to the menu are definitely worth noting … Chef Zara Abbasi Wilkerson’s desserts. Greg Henderson has the full rundown of what to expect.
Did you know Mylo Coffee Co. is going mobile? Check out Becca Bona’s article, which is also chalked full of great photos.
