Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Best Margarita in Town

I know when a great margarita is sitting in front of me.
I don’t claim to be an expert in many areas of food, but when you’ve lived in Houston for the overwhelming majority of your adulthood, you know a thing or two about margaritas. Heck, most folks’ post-work Friday nights are spent at your favorite Mexican restaurant with a plate of sizzling beef fajitas and one (or two) margaritas.
With Cinco de Mayo coming up, I’ve had margaritas on the brain, and no place in Little Rock serves a better one than Local Lime. Generally speaking, I favor the on-the-rocks variety, but when it comes to Local Lime, the frozen margarita reigns supreme.
“Local Lime’s margarita is always made with 100% agave, reposado tequila. We only use freshly squeezed lime juice and one of the best triple secs on the market. There is never any neon green stuff from a bottle used in our margaritas. We take time to juice all the limes and have tweaked the perfect recipe between sweet and tart,” says Ben Brainard of Yellow Rocket Concepts.
He continues, “The Local Lime frozen margarita came from three years of “research.” John, Scott, Herren, Lee, and I tried every single 100% agave reposado on the planet first. We then got to work on the percentage of sugar, fresh squeezed lime juice, and water. We then concentrated on finding the perfect triple sec. We scrutinized every single component and every percentage until we felt like we had the perfect margarita. The consistency of our frozen is a product of our recipe and the freezer and paddle that we use to batch freeze our margaritas.”
And apparently, Local Lime patrons show the on-the-rocks margarita the same amount of love. “As it measures against the rocks margarita? We sell almost 1-to-1,” says Brainard.
