For many in Little Rock, the closest you’ll get to an authentic Cuban experience is a night watching Godfather 2 while smoking some knock-off cigars. There’s not much in the way of Cuban cooking in these parts. But one food truck is looking to change all that. El Cubano Loco is one of the latest trucks to roll onto the scene, and they only dished out their menu a couple weeks ago for the first time. They’re looking to bring the flavors of Havana to the Natural State.
The truck is owned and operated by Michelle Lopez and Jorge Nuñez, both first-timers to the food truck world. They describe their menu as “authentic Cuban comfort food,” and say they’re “very excited to bring the flavor of Cuba to Central Arkansas…to give the people something new.” Nuñez came to America from Cuba in 1992 and has continued to cook for his friends and family since that time, but only recently decided to make it his profession.
Menu items include:
Cuban roast pork with black beans and rice
Cuban sandwiches with roast pork, honey ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and spicy mustard
Cuban style tacos in chicken, steak, and pork w/ sour cream, queso fresca, and mango salsa
Fried sweet plantains with sea salt
Medianoche – the Cuban sandwich on sweet bread
Quesadillas with pork, chicken, or beef
While their truck is fully mobile, they tend to do some set locations, making it slightly easier to know where they will be each day:
Monday-Friday from 11 am to 4 pm, you’ll find them at 7101 Colonel Glenn Rd. Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm, find them at 11000 Arch St.
Follow them on Facebook for daily menu changes and any new locations. You’ll also find them this weekend (Saturday) at the Main Street Food Truck Festival. Phone: 501-773-7678.
