Tomorrow night is the Love for Flyway beer dinner at South on Main, which promises to be an amazing evening of food and beer. It’s a four-course dinner that will feature five different brews over the course of the evening. Believe it or not, there are still a few tickets left for this one. I highly encourage you to attend; both Flyway Brewing and South on Main are some of the best at what they do. Order your tickets by emailing amy@southonmain.com. Also this week, Flyway is debuting the 2018 version of its Lord God Imperial Chocolate Stout. The 2017 version was my pick for brew of the year, and this one should be just as good. To celebrate, Flyway has enlisted Mylo Coffee Co. to create a Lord God chocolate cake that will be sold at the brewery. Both the brew and the cake will be out on Valentine’s Day.
Lost Forty continues its one-of-a-kind month of barrel-aged brews today for a double Freshcut Monday release. Today, the brewery’s signature Love Honey Bock gets the barrel treatment, with both a bourbon and a rye version going on tap. Lost Forty actually made this a bigger batch than usual; in addition to making it available in growlers and crowlers, there will be some limited distribution around Little Rock as well. Don’t forget, those who go to all four Freshcut Monday releases this month will get a free Teku glass. Superior Bathhouse Brewery is joining the canned beer scene. The Hot Springs brewery has released its Hitchcock Spring Kolsch in tall-boy six-packs. The cans are available only at the brewery for now. From what I can tell, these are the first cans Superior has done (the retro-style can art isn’t half-bad, either). By the way, if you come in Monday-Thursday between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., you can take advantage of what Superior calls the best happy hour in Hot Springs. It’s $2 off pints, $1 off specialty or high-gravity brews, and $2 off all appetizers.
Hop lovers this week should be checking out Blue Canoe Brewing Company’s new release this Thursday. It’s the Double Rapids Double IPA made with Citra and Amarillo hops at 8 percent ABV and 100 IBU, this one should pack quite a punch. Head brewer Patrick Cowan says there are plenty of tropical fruit notes in this one, including a hint of some pineapple. Also this week, Blue Canoe is offering pints for $1 off during the Razorbacks’ basketball game on Tuesday at the taproom; Tuesday at the warehouse is Yoga on Draft starting at 6 p.m.
Ever want to recreate John Cusack’s famous boombox scene from Say Anything? Valentine’s Day is your chance at Stone’s Throw Brewing, where they’re hosting a Lloyd Dobbler Boombox Standoff starting at 6 p.m. Contestants get a 10-pound boombox to hold over their heads for as long as possible. The last Lloyd standing gets a Bluetooth-fitted boombox from Rock City Thumps. Contestants much register in advance to compete, so make sure you visit the Facebook event page if you want in. By the way, Stone’s Throw is re-releasing its Bruxelles Belgian Blonde on #NewBrewFriday. It’s a light, easy-drinking brew that should be great for the warmer weather we’ll be getting later this week.
There’s no 4:30 Thursday event this week for Rebel Kettle Brewing Company. However, Rebel Kettle has set the date for its second anniversary celebration. Beer and Loathing in Little Rock will be held on Saturday, April 7. The first Beer and Loathing was a huge hit, with food trucks, live music and a special barrel-aged beer tent. Rebel Kettle hopes to release the details of this year’s festival later this week.
