Growlers: Holiday Hours for Every Local Brewery, Flyway Half-Price Growler Fills, Two New Brews from Lost Forty

Welcome to Growlers: your weekly roundup of news, events and specials from Little Rock’s breweries and taprooms. Little Rock’s beer scene is growing and improving at a rapid pace, and we’re dedicated to keeping you up to speed on all of it. Here’s what’s happening this week:
I don’t know about you, but the idea of spending Christmas day with a growler of Flyway Free Range Brown Ale (Or Rebel Kettle Moontower, or Lost Forty Forest Queen, or…) sounds pretty fantastic to me. So I called every brewery in town to get their hours for the holiday weekend so you know what time you have to arrive to get your fill-up (all breweries will be closed Christmas day):

With the holidays coming up, you’d think Central Arkansas breweries would be slowing down production. You’d be wrong. Here’s a rundown of what you can find at breweries around town this week.
Flyway Brewing is closed today, but when it opens tomorrow, you can try out the new Old Decoy strong ale. This is a very old style that English monks would brew centuries ago. It’s a 6.8-percent ale aged on toasted oak, and Flyway’s brew team seems pretty excited about this one. Also, keep an eye out this week for the return of Kingfisher IPA. This is a “brewer’s choice” recipe; every winter, Flyway will brew Kingfisher using a different recipe while keeping the name the same. That could be out as soon as Friday, which is the day Flyway is offering half-priced growler fill-ups all day long. That’s a fantastic deal for some of the best beer in Central Arkansas, so make sure to take advantage of it.
Lost Forty Brewing has two brews coming out for Freshcut Monday today. First, it’s Nighty Night Before Christmas, which rests it’s three-barrel-aged Nighty Night on candy canes and vanilla beans (because Nighty Night apparently didn’t have enough going on). That one is available by the pint only; I can’t imagine it will be around very long, so get there today. Also today, you can check out Lost Forty’s XXX Ale, an homage to Ballantine & Son’s Brewing Company, which was one of the largest breweries in the U.S. before Prohibition. This one, again, will only be available by the pint, so you have two good excuses to stop by Lost Forty today.
Vino’s Brewpub is putting on Josiah Moody’s Scotch Ale either Wednesday or Thursday. This one is a 6.5 percent ABV ale with very low hops and almost a honey-like sweetness. At last check, Moody’s Rock Island Steamer is also still on tap at Vino’s
Blue Canoe Brewing Company will open Wednesday with the release of its coconut stout. In my opinion, Blue Canoe does stouts and porters quite well, so this one should be worth checking out.
White Limo Golden Stout makes its return to Rebel Kettle Brewing Company for 4:30 Thursday. It arrives to the table with a light golden color, but don’t be fooled. This is a stout packed with roasted chocolate notes and even some hints of coffee. I sampled it before it was carbonated a couple of weeks ago; trust me, this is one you want to pick up while you can.
If you haven’t already had it, get to Stone’s Throw Brewing soon for the winter release of Dark Helmet Schwarzbier brewed with Mylo Coffee. It’s one of Stone’s Throw’s more beloved recurring beers. And just in time for Christmas, #NewBrewFriday will see the release of Off the Wal-Nut Milk Stout, a nutty, dark beer that should be great for sipping by the fireplace over the holidays.
