Growlers: Lord God is Back, Gravity BrewWorks at Stone's Throw, Lost Forty Cherry Limeade

Current local beer recommendation: Barrel-aged RoggenDunkelDoppelbock barrel-aged doppelbock by Stone’s Throw Brewing (available on tap at Stone’s Throw Stifft Station)
One of the best annual releases in Central Arkansas is back this week. For Valentine’s Day, Flyway Brewing is releasing its 2020 version of Lord God Imperial Chocolate Stout. This is an 11% ABV chocolate monster brewed with fresh roasted cacao nibs. That high ABV may look daunting, but Lord God drinks remarkably smoothly. The beer is named after the ivory-billed woodpecker, affectionately known as the “Lord God” bird in parts of East Arkansas. In addition, Flyway will have the 2019 version on tap, as well as a 2020 iteration made with vanilla and coffee. Now, for those of you looking for the barrel-aged version that was a huge hit last year, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer. Flyway is anticipating canning that brew in a month or two, so stay tuned. There are no cans for this week’s release, but you can try all three Lord God versions on tap this Friday when the taproom opens at 11 a.m.
For the second time this year, Gravity BrewWorks is making a stop in Central Arkansas. Bill Riffle and Tony Guinn of the Baxter County brewery will be at Stone’s Throw Brewing in Stifft Station for a Valentine’s Day tap takeover on Friday. The brewery is bringing several beers for the occasion, including Coco Chan-Ale Chcolate Brown Ale and Hot Coco Chocolate Brown (because Valentine’s Day). They will also have several others with them that haven’t yet been announced. The tap takeover is from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday at the Stifft Station location. For those who prefer the MacPark spot, Stone’s Throw will be releasing its seasonal staple Biere de Gras, a highly traditional 5% ABV biere de garde released just in time for Mardi Gras. You can grab a pint of this #NewBrewFriday release Friday starting at 4 p.m. at Stone’ Throw MacPark.
Lost Forty Brewing today is making the beer version of a popular drive-in soft drink. Today’s Freshcut Monday release is Currant-Cherry Limeade. This recipe combines Lost Forty’s seasonal Currant Mood winter ale with housemade limeade for a mix of cold and warm weather flavors. At 4.2% ABV, it’s an easy sipper that will have you yearning for summer months (not that you need help with that right now). There’s only 15 gallons of Currant-Cherry Limeade available, and it’s only for sale by the glass at the taproom, so make sure you get there today if you want to enjoy this one.
Nothing new on tap from the team at Rebel Kettle Brewing Company, but those of you in Northwest Arkansas will have access to some RK brews that usually can’t be found in your area. Rebel Kettle is holding a tap takeover event at Growlers USA in Rogers on Friday. The Rebel Kettle folks are bringing a whopping 13 brews to the event. In addition to their standby beers, like Working Glass Hero and Rob Gnarly, Rebel Kettle is bringing some truly special concoctions. The 2019 version of Black Reign barrel-aged Russian imperial stout and RedRumPum barrel-aged imperial amber ale will be available. You can also get some of the newest releases, like Tid Bit Wiggly cinnamon bun barleywine, Emerald Glade IPA and Campfire Pastries imperial pastry stout. These are brews those of us in Central Arkansas have roundly praised, and now folks in NWA get their chance to try them. The Growlers USA tap takeover is this Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Rogers.
