Growlers: Flyway Pints for Flood Relief, Lost Forty Dig the Ride, Stone's Throw Two-Timing IPA, Refined Ale Closed

A new IPA out today at Lost Forty Brewing kicks off this week in Central Arkansas’ beer scene. For today’s Freshcut Monday release, Lost Forty is unveiling its Dig the Ride Trail-ready IPA, a 6.3% ABV brew with notes of citrus, honey and herbs. Lost Forty says to expect some balanced sweetness with a dry finish out of this one. This is a seasonal release, so Lost Forty is putting it out statewide in six-packs. It will be available at the brewery today at 4 p.m. in cans and on tap.
Stone’s Throw Brewing is bringing back a seasonal IPA as well this week. Its #NewBrewFriday release at the MacPark location will be Two-Timing American IPA, a classic American-style IPA that last checked in at 7% ABV. This one is almost entirely made with American two-row barley, while six hop additions give it plenty of punch. It will be available at 4 p.m. Friday. As usual, the Stifft Station taproom won’t see this new release at first, though it will likely go on tap there later this month.
As first reported last night by our friend John the Beer Snob, Little Rock’s Refined Ale Brewery last month closed its doors for good. Owner Windell Gray closed the business rather than selling it to someone else. Gray had operated Refined Ale for 10 years. It was notable for being the only black-owned brewery in Central Arkansas (though not the only one in the state; Tony Guinn is co-owner of Gravity BrewWorks in Big Flat). Refined Ale never distributed, opting only to sell out of its taproom and neighboring restaurant.
Flyway Brewing doesn’t have anything new on tap, though Low Flock IPA is back for a limited time at the taproom. However, the brewery is holding an important charity event this Wednesday evening. From 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., 100% of all pint sales will be donated to the American Red Cross to help flooding victims here in the Natural State. In addition, Flyway will also be giving out 10 $20 gift cards at the event. The flooding has severely hurt many people who live and do business near the Arkansas River, and hopefully this event can help ease some of that burden.
No 4:30 Thursday this week at Rebel Kettle, but the team did want me to mention a couple of concerts that might interest folks. On Thursday evening, dream pop band Whale Fire will play a free concert starting at 6 p.m. on the outdoor stage. Then on Saturday, it’s bluegrass locals Runaway Planet from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
