It’s a week for hopheads as several Central Arkansas breweries have IPAs (or IPL) newly on tap over the next few days. It starts today at Lost Forty Brewing, where the brew team is tapping its third and final batch in its “Trash Pandemonium” series. This version of Trash Panda IPA gets all the hops; specifically, Amarillo, El Dorado, Chinook, Belma, Ekuanot and Denali. Three of those hops are added during the boil, and the other three added during a dry-hop period. If you aren’t familiar, Lost Forty’s Trash Panda is a standard IPA recipe that gets a new hop profile every time out. If you missed any of the previous Trash Pandemonium brews, you can still get them today in a special flight. You can also get this third version by the glass, in growlers and crowlers, and in limited 4-packs to go. Lost Forty is also firing up the pizza oven for today’s event. Everything kicks off at 4 p.m.
Later this week, Rebel Kettle Brewing Company gets in on the hop-forward action with its 4:30 Thursday event. The brewery is debuting Nightmare on C Street Part 2, which is a Black Rye India Pale Lager. This IPL is inspired by both East Coast and West Coast IPAs while keeping the clean-drinking qualities of a lager. Expect notes of tropical fruit, rye and cocoa from this 12th installment in Rebel Kettle’s C Street series. It will be available by the glass or in growlers and crowlers to go. Nightmare on C Street Part 2 goes on tap Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
And it’s not a new brew, but Flyway Brewing’s excellent Low Flock IPA is back on at the North Little Rock taproom. This New England-style IPA is packed with fruity, balanced hops for a beer that manages to take most of the bitterness out of the brew. In addition, Flyway has on its excellent seasonal Oktoberfest right now as well as its new wheat beer Wapiti Wit. Those should stay on tap throughout the week.
Buffalo Brewing Company is settling in at its two new locations. At the new taproom in the Heights, owner Nolen Buffalo has started some regular weekly specials for the weekday crowd, including a Trifecta Tuesday (first beer is $5, second is $4, third is $3) and a 3-for-$12 special on Wednesday. Also, check Buffalo Brewing Company’s Facebook page for weekend food trucks. Buffalo has also opened up its new brewing facility on Cantrell Road, which marks the official closing of The Water Buffalo hobby and gardening shop on Rodney Parham. Buffalo is brewing out of the new facility, which will eventually have a taproom and patio. Those updates could come by the end of the year.
Stone’s Throw Brewing has a something new at both its locations this week. First, the #NewBrewFriday release at the MacPark spot is Old Town Rice Road, an easy drinker brewed with Arkansas Rice. Septemer is Arkansas Rice Month, and Old Town Rice Road was created to celebrate the grain that Arkansas produces more of than any other state. Then at the Stifft Station location, Stone’s Throw has started live music on Saturday nights. Called “Riffs on Stifft,” this concert series will regularly feature local musical talent at the taproom. This Saturday, it’s musician Jeff Coleman appearing without his band The Feeders. The event goes from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Stone’s Throw Stifft Station.
And it’s not exactly in Central Arkansas, but we do want to wish Hawk Moth Brewery and Beer Parlor in Rogers a happy first birthday. The brewery has quickly become one of our favorites with some daring and innovative brews that appeal to beer geeks (like us). Hawk Moth is hosting a birthday celebration Saturday complete with rare bottle release; stop in if you happen to be in Northwest Arkansas this weekend.
