It’s always good to see Bike Rack Brewing head brewer Josiah Moody in town, even if it’s only temporary. Moody spent last week around Little Rock helping Vino’s train a new brewer, working on a collaboration with Rebel Kettle, and even brewing some Moody Brews Aria’s Bier while he was here. Expect to see Aria’s Bier on tap at Vino’s in the next couple of weeks. The Rebel Kettle collaboration brew is called Hive Riot. It’s a honey rye ale that Moody and Rebel Kettle’s Josh Davis and John Lee hope to put out in a few weeks. Moody is back in Bentonville this week where he has been at Bike Rack since earlier this year. Bike Rack beers are available in cans, but those cans have yet to make it to the Little Rock market.
The team at Lost Forty is really excited about today’s Freshcut Monday release, which should be a treat for sour beer lovers. The taproom is debuting the second installment in its Wild Barrels Project, which is a mixed-culture, barrel-aged milk stout. Lost Forty put its Forest Queen Milk Stout into red wine barrels used to make Nighty Night to age for three months. The barrels were then opened and inoculated with a special yeast, then aged for four more months. Barrel-aged sour beers don’t come along every week, and it’s far more rare than that to find a sour milk stout. Lost Forty only has 264 bottles available at the taproom for $13.75 each. The event starts at 4 p.m.; I encourage you to arrive early.
Rebel Kettle does enjoy its collaborations. For its 4:30 Thursday release event, the brewery is putting out Dojo Storm Brett Pale Ale, which it put out in partnership with Stone’s Throw Brewing. This one uses a ton of hops and Brettanomyces for a robust tropical flavor profile. Only ten gallons of this beer will be available on Thursday, which means no growlers will be available. By the way, don’t forget about Beer Yoga Tuesday at 7 p.m. Admission is $10.
Stone’s Throw, meanwhile, hasn’t said much about what it has on deck this week, though you can forgive them after throwing another successful Block on Rock celebration this past weekend. The party was a hit, with beer flowing and several food trucks coming close to running out before all was said and done. We do know that The Mighty Wing, a peach-blueberry ale that Stone’s Throw brewed with Flyway Brewing, is back on tap this week at Flyway, so make sure to check that one out if you haven’t already.
And Diamond Bear continues its small-batch Cubby Series with the release of a yet-unnamed chocolate vanilla porter this week. Head brewer Nathan Greubel aged this porter on cacao nibs and vanilla beans before kegging it. At only 4.7 percent ABV, this one won’t be too dangerous. However, only five gallons are available, so if you want a glass, be there when it goes on tap Friday at 5 p.m. to get your weekend started.
