Growlers: Rebel Kettle 2x Release, Stone's Throw at Rock Town, Lost Forty Dry Irish Stout

It’s another double release week for Rebel Kettle Brewing Company, which has been busy churning out new recipes over the last few months. First up is Tid Bit Wiggly, a cute name for a very big brew. Tid Bit Wiggly is a 10.5% ABV barleywine brewed with cinnamon buns from Community Bakery in SoMa. After a double mash and a six-hour boil, this monster ale should have plenty of flavor and sweetness. The second part of this week’s double is Emerald Glade IPA, a 6.8% ABV ale brewed with Citra and Mosaic hops. The hop profile is more fruity than bitter, which means you can expect some milder, tropical notes from this one. Both Tid Bit Wiggly and Emerald Glade will be available on draft and in four-packs to go at Rebel Kettle’s 4:30 Thursday release event. Also on Thursday, Rebel Kettle is holding a tap takeover at Bark Bar in SoMa. The brewery is bringing four beers to the party: Working Glass Hero, Easy Roller IPA, Moontower Cream Stout and Whole Lotta Rosé.
Stone’s Throw Brewing has a big Friday planned for this week. First, for #NewBrewFriday, it’s the return of Stone’s Throw’s Cocoa Celebration, a 6% ABV milk stout brewed with cacao nibs. This is a slightly sweet brew with good dark chocolate notes and a smooth sip. It hits the tapwall at Stone’s Throw MacPark at 4 p.m. Friday. And Stone’s Throw will also be holding a tap takeover Friday at Rock Town Distillery. The brewery will be bringing Urquhart Wee Heavy and Ripple Effect Rye to the event, as well as a special barrel-aged brew. Stone’s Throw aged its RoggenDunkelDoppelbock in Rock Town peated whiskey barrels last year and is debuting the brew at Rock Town Friday. This one comes in at a whopping 14% ABV, so sip carefully. In addition, Rock Town Distillery will be mixing several Stone’s Throw beer cocktails for just $6 each all day Friday.
Lost Forty Brewing today is releasing a style it has never put on tap before. Today’s Freshcut Monday release is Dry Irish Stout. This is a sessionable 3.5% ABV with assertive hops and a classic roasted malt finish. This is a classic recipe; Lost Forty isn’t tweaking it very much with the exception of a lower ABV than usual. It’s also an extremely small batch, so it’s only available on tap starting at 4 p.m. I would say get there early if you want a chance to try it.
No new releases this week from the Flyway Brewing team, but there is an interesting event at the North Little Rock taproom this evening. Alison Hazelwood of Whole Foods in West Little Rock will be coming to the taproom at 4 p.m. today … and she’s bringing quite a bit of cheese with her. Flyway is holding a beer and cheese tasting event from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Hazelwood will be pairing some of the cheeses sold at Whole Foods with a select flight of Flyway’s beers. Check it out this evening for a unique pairing experience.
And finally, Superior Bathhouse Brewery in Hot Springs will close its kitchen tomorrow for renovations. The completed project will result in significantly more capacity for expanding the food menu going forward. However, Superior doesn’t want you to leave hungry. On Tuesday, the brewery will be setting up a grill on the lawn to make chicken and steak street tacos, as well as a nacho bar. Of course, the taps are unaffected by the renovation project, so there will be plenty of Superior beer as well. The pop-up taqueria event goes from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
