Growlers: Rebel Kettle Bottles Fuzzy Dice, Lost Forty Barrel-Aged Oktoberfest

It’s a triple-release week for Rebel Kettle as the brewery has a brand new beer, a re-release and a new bottling coming out. First, the new brew that comes out today is called Thai Vibes. It’s a farmhouse-style ale conditioned on toasted coconut and chopped ginger root. This little experiment is a very small batch that’s only available by the glass, so you should stop by today if you want to try it. Then for 4:30 Thursday, Rebel Kettle is once more putting on Premature Infatuation. This is a playful nod to the basic drink of fall brewed with coffee, vanilla beans and pumpkin spice. Head brewer John Lee joked they wanted to beat Starbucks to the punch. Finally on Saturday, Rebel Kettle is selling its first ever bottling project. Fuzzy Dice is the brewery’s peach-apricot American sour ale. Rebel Kettle has 900 bottles available for sale at the taproom only, so you’ll have to stop by to pick up a couple for the beer cellar.
Some people may have thought it was too early for an Oktoberfest beer, but Lost Forty is hearing none of that. Today for Freshcut Monday, the brewery is doubling down with the small-batch release of Bourbon Barrel Oktoberfest. Lost Forty has been aging a batch of The Hunter in bourbon barrels for the past eight months, resulting in a Marzen-style beer with plenty of vanilla and oak notes. This is a delicious-sounding small batch that is only available by the glass at the taproom. Then on Thursday, Lost Forty is celebrating its Great American Beer Festival silver medal with the Release the Tiger Brewhouse Bash. The party celebrates Easy Tiger’s win and its statewide release. In addition to getting a six-pack right off the canning line, you can enjoy live music and a chicken tinga tacos special. The first 50 people in line Thursday also get some free Easy Tiger swag. The event kicks off at 5:30.
A couple of delightful hoppy brews are back on tap at Flyway Brewing. First, the brewery has created its third batch of Low Flock IPA. This 6 percent ABV New England-style brew has a lot of floral and citrus notes to enjoy. Owner Jess McMullen says he thinks this third batch is the best one yet. Also on tap at Flyway is Peregrine Pale Ale, one of my favorite pale ale brews in Central Arkansas. Also weighing in at 6 percent ABV, Peregrine gets most of its flavor from a generous helping of Citra hops. Both are available by the glass and in growlers to-go.
And we missed it when it first came out, but kudos are in order for Superior Bathhouse Brewery on the canning of its second beer. Superior Pale Ale (or S.P.A. for short) has been available by the six-pack at the Hot Springs taproom for a couple of weeks now. This is one of my favorite Superior brews to load into a growler, and now that it’s available in cans I’ll be getting it even more. S.P.A. joins Superior Kolsch-style Ale as the two canned options at the moment. Making these cans even more attractive is the fact that Superior only sells the 16.9-ounce tall-boy cans, not the usual 12-ounce version. Both cans are available for take-home at the brewery on a daily basis.
