Growlers: Rebel Kettle Canned Release, Lost Forty Doublecut, Core Closes Taprooms

Rebel Kettle Brewing Company has a new canned release slated to make its debut this week. On Friday, Rebel Kettle is releasing 2019 Spring Cleanin’ in four-packs. (Update: due to the labels being delayed, this release has been delayed until Thursday, March 7) Spring Cleanin’ is a hazy imperial IPA brewed with Azacca, Cashmere, Citra, Kohatu and Mandarina Bavaria hops. Expect a ton of juicy notes and a soft finish thanks to the flaked grain in the brew. There will only be 20 cases of Spring Cleanin’ available, so you’ll want to be there Friday to get some. This is only the third beer Rebel Kettle has canned; Purple Dinosour and Headbanger’s Ball Imperial IPA are the other two. Head brewer John Lee says that Rebel Kettle will soon begin regular canned releases of some of their limited-batch creations. Then on Saturday, Rebel Kettle is holding a special Mardi Gras party all day. This includes food and beer specials all day, as well as a Mardi Gras costume competition. The winner gets a $100 Rebel Kettle gift card, but everyone who wears a costume gets 10 percent off their bill. Also, Working Glass Hero will be $3.50 a glass and $12 for a pitcher all day long.
Lost Forty Brewing kicks off this week’s beer activities with a “Doublecut Monday” release. First up is the return of Blackberry Bramble, Lost Forty’s popular spring seasonal release. This 6.1 percent ABV beer has a vibrant blackberry color, but it’s still a delicious wheat beer at heart. It’s available by the glass as well as six-packs to go. Blackberry Bramble will be available statewide starting in March. The second release is a bourbon barrel-aged version of Rock Candy Belgian Abbey Ale. The brewery aged a batch of Rock Candy in bourbon barrels from Rock Town Distillery for an 11 percent ABV sipper that should keep you warm for the rest of the winter. This one is only available by the glass; you can find it at the taproom and at the bar at Rock Town Distillery in SoMa. Today’s double Freshcut Monday release starts at 4 p.m.
Core Brewing has announced some sweeping changes, including the closure of several of its public house locations. Core is shuttering four of its taprooms in Northwest Arkansas; this after closing the Argenta location earlier this year. Core’s Public Houses in SoMa, Hot Springs, East Fayetteville and Fort Smith will remain open. Core is making moves to focus on its business in Springdale where it will soon open a restored taproom at its brewery location. The closures should also result in a better product at the remaining public house locations. Core’s new brewery taproom in Springdale should be open for business in April.
Stone’s Throw Brewing is releasing a celebratory beer to honor one of its longtime employees. Every time a Stone’s Throw employee hits their three-year anniversary, they get a special beer created for them. This time, it’s Chris Claridge’s single-hopped imperial IPA. Chris’s IIPA is brewed with Mosaic hops and four different malts for a juicy beer that doesn’t taste too bitter. Stone’s Throw is releasing Chris’s IIPA for its #NewBrewFriday release at 4 p.m. Friday is also the day of the season’s final S’mores and Pours event, featuring handmade s’more cookie sandwiches paired with Stone’
