Growlers: Rebel Kettle Fruit Beers, Lost Forty Snake Party, Superior Pub Crawl in Argenta

Summer is the best time for breweries to release their fruit beers, and Rebel Kettle is making sure it takes full advantage. For its 4:30 Thursday event, the brewery is releasing three of its popular fruit beers from last year on the same day. Customers will be able to try Day Dreamsicle, which is an orange “creamsicle” wheat; P Whipped, which is a pineapple whipped ale; and A Salt and Splattery, which is a tart watermelon gose beer. These beers are all small batches and are only available in limited quantities, so make sure to get there early Thursday if you want to try all three. Also, I’ve been told that Rebel Kettle is less than two weeks away from releasing its outstanding Summer Jam raspberry sour again, which will be a welcome addition to Arkansas’ summer beer scene.
One of the city’s best IPAs is back on tap again today. Lost Forty Brewing is holding a canning party for the Freshcut Monday release of its Snake Party Double IPA. Just tell your server or your bartender, and you can get your four-pack of Snake Party freshly canned and right off the line. This double IPA is a big brew at 10 percent ABV and 67 IBU, and it does not pull any well-balanced punches. Snake Party will also be available in growlers. By the way, Lost Forty also has a seasonal food entrée, a smoked turkey salad with Arkansas tomatoes, that should pair well with beer or do well as a standalone dish.
Superior Bathhouse Brewery is making sure all of Central Arkansas knows what it has to offer. Last week, the brewery signed a distribution deal with Central and Moon Distributors to sell its beer around the state. And this week, Superior is invading North Little Rock via a pub crawl. The Argenta pub crawl covers Core Public House, Flyway, Cregeen’s, Skinny J’s, Reno’s and Four Quarter Bar. At each stop, you’ll find Superior beer on tap and someone with the brewery to chat with you about their craft. The crawl starts at 6 p.m. Thursday night and concludes when businesses close up at 10 p.m.
Core Brewing has released a couple of new beers into all its public houses, including the location in Argenta. First up is the Golden IPA, an 8 percent ABV made with Idaho 7 hops, order number 007 (say “Golden IPA” out loud to get where the name comes from). At just over 69 IBU, this one will be a hop lover’s priority. Core is also releasing the Helles Yeah Lager. At 4.4 percent ABV, this one is a less hoppy alternative to a pilsner. Core debuted Helles Yeah on its canoe trip around two weeks ago to rave reviews. Neither beer is going to be canned; Core is only making them available via the public houses, so you’ll have to get to Argenta to try them.
If you have some time off Friday, a pilgrimage to Prestonrose Farm and Brewing Company in Paris, Ark., might be in order. That’s because Prestonrose is releasing its summer edition of Patience. Patience is an imperial stout brewed back in November that is progressively aged and released in a series of five events over the course of 2017. Friday’s release marks the third out of five tasting Prestonrose will offer. Patience is only available in 32-ounce mini-growlers, and quantities are obviously very limited.
One of the year’s best parties has been scheduled for the end of July, when Stone’s Throw Brewing will hold its annual Block on Rock bash celebrating the brewery’s fourth birthday. If you’ve never been to a Block on Rock party, you should know the celebration includes beer from breweries all over Arkansas and food from some of the city’s best trucks. So far, the food, beer and entertainment lineups are all still being worked out, but you’ll want to block off Saturday, July 29, on your calendar for what promises to be an enjoyable event. By the way, this week Stone’s Throw’s #NewBrewFriday has two brews coming out: the 2017 Anniversary Stout, and Dortmunder Export Lager.
