Growlers: Stone's Throw King Cake Biere, 5 Beers 5 Bites Dinner, Flyway Flying Duck

Current local beer recommendation: Tid Bit Wiggly Cinnamon Bun Barleywine at Rebel Kettle Brewing Company (available on draft and in four-packs to go)
There are only a few breweries with scheduled events and beer releases this week, but those breweries are pretty busy. Let’s start at Stone’s Throw Brewing, where the taproom in Stifft Station is getting a special release party of its own. For Mardi Gras, the brewery is releasing its new King Cake Biere. It’s a riff on Stone’s Throw’s annual Biere de Gras release, throwing in brown sugar and cinnamon from Will’s Cinnamon Shop in Hot Springs. This 5% ABV small batch will only be available at the Stifft Station taproom starting Tuesday. The Stifft Station location also has a packed week with food trucks, including Wednesday’s monthly 5 Beers 5 Bites dinner with Low Ivy Catering. The menu for this one looks excellent, with dishes including Braised Pork Jowl Carbonara and Bacon-infused Sticky Toffee Pudding. Tickets for the dinner are $60 and are on sale now. And if you can’t make the dinner, the Stifft Station taproom has food trucks on the weekend, with Nach’Yo Nachos on Friday, The Lab Food Truck on Saturday and Luncheria Mexicana Alicia on Sunday.
Clearly it’s a good week to visit Stone’s Throw’s Stifft Station spot, but if the MacPark location is your usual haunt, the brewery has you covered. This week’s #NewBrewFriday release is Mickey’s Irish Red, a 6% ABV traditional Irish ale. The deep red color comes from the roasted barley in the mash, while the slightly dry and mildly bitter finish comes from the English hops that balances everything out. Mickey’s Irish Red hits the tap wall at Stone’s Throw MacPark at 4 p.m. Friday.
Flyway Brewing today completes the return of its popular Flying Duck Amber Ale brew. If you’ve gone grocery shopping lately, you’ve probably seen the 6- and 12-packs of Flying Duck on store shelves. Today, Flyway is putting it back on tap. Flying Duck is a 4.9% amber ale that drinks easily with mild caramel malts and a nicely balanced hop profile. Flyway brews this one in collaboration with RNT Calls out of Stuttgart for duck season, but really it’s good any time of the year. Stop by Flyway and grab a pint this week.
And if you’re looking for something even lighter, Lost Forty Brewing has you covered. Today’s Freshcut Monday release is Strawberry Brunch Muffin, a variation of its Brunch Muffin gose. Strawberry Brunch Muffin is a 4.5% ABV ale brewed with fresh strawberries, vanilla, lactose and lemon for a sweet, creamy and tart ale. Hopefully, this vibrant, fruit-packed gose will herald the return of warm weather in Arkansas. Strawberry Brunch Muffin goes on sale today at 4 p.m. at the taproom; it’s available via draft or four-packs to go.
