Growlers: Stone's Throw Stifft Station, Lost Forty Rock Town Porter, Superior Borracha Doble

I can’t say enough good things about the new Stone’s Throw taproom in Stifft Station. At an industry night this weekend, I got a chance to see the expansive taproom and sit at the bar for a few brews. The space is bigger than you would think, with tons of natural light and good vibes all around. And for beer lovers, you’ll want to order a glass of the Stifft Station Special. It’s a fantastic ESB, as well balanced as you’ll find around here. As a bonus, you can order it as a regular version or on nitro. The Stifft Station taproom begins holding regular hours on Friday, with an official grand opening next week. Meanwhile at the still bustling MacPark location, the Stone’s Throw team will be debuting its new Cranberry Gose for #NewBrewFriday. This tart, light ale goes on tap at 4 p.m. Friday only at the MacPark taproom; it will go on tap at Stifft Station at a later date.
Today’s Freshcut Monday at Lost Forty Brewing is one that will go quickly. At 4 p.m. today, the taproom is debuting its Rock Town Bourbon Barrel-aged Baltic Porter. The brew team put the base Puffy Jacket Baltic Porter into a Rock Town Distillery bourbon barrel and forgot about it for seven months. Lost Forty says the final brew is ultra-smooth, with plenty of coffee, caramel and vanilla notes. Because this is such a limited batch, you’re only going to be able to get this by the glass starting this afternoon.
Superior Bathhouse Brewery in Hot Springs has a big release planned for the weekend. The Spa City taproom is releasing Borracha Doble this Friday at 11 a.m. Borracha Doble is an imperial Mexican-style lager that adds some extra booziness to the sweet, smooth malt of a traditional brew. Superior’s promotional material shows a Michelada-style chili-salt rim and a lime on the glass; that should make for an intriguing flavor profile. Also, Superior has let us know that they will also release a super-small batch Mole Luchador Chocolate Mole Stout on Friday as well. There will only be 15 gallons of Mole Luchador available, so it’s only available by the glass and probably won’t last the weekend. It’s not like you needed another reason to visit Hot Springs, but this is certainly a good one.
Rebel Kettle Brewing Company this week is tapping its Swimmin’ Hole summer saison for its 4:30 Thursday. This is a light farmhouse ale that has been well received each of the past two years it’s been on tap. Swimmin’ Hole features notes of tropical fruit and spice and a clean finish. You can get it by the glass or in crowlers and growlers to go.
And no new beer releases for Flyway Brewing this week, but you’ll still want to stop by Tuesday evening for a special pop-up dinner. Flyway is opening the doors at 2 p.m. for the Razorbacks baseball game, then hosting Delta Biscuit Company and chef Mindy Mitchell for a special New Orleans-themed dinner. Flyway beer and Delta Biscuit Company and Cajun food all together sounds like a match made in heaven to me.
