Growlers: Superior Gets Distribution Deal, Lost Forty's Logger Rita is Back, Flyway Kestrel Kolsch Debut

It’s likely you’re going to start seeing Hot Springs-based Superior Bathhouse Brewery around Little Rock a lot more. The brewery has signed a deal with Central and Moon Distribution to begin offering its beer to restaurants, barrooms and growler stations around Central Arkansas. Distribution has only just started, but Superior has promised it will keep a list on where you can find its beers in the area.
Lost Forty Brewing today is bringing back a hugely popular brew from 2016. The brewery’s Logger Rita is today’s Freshcut Monday release. It’s Lost Forty’s Vienna lager influenced by Mexican brewing traditions. At 5.2 percent ABV, it won’t make you regret reaching for a second, and its crisp finish should pair nicely with the hot weather that’s settling in for the summer. By the way, Lost Forty will be making some special Tex-Mex dishes just for this release, so make dinner plans to go along with your beer enjoyment. Lost Forty is making this one available in growlers, crowlers and six-packs.
Flyway Brewing has settled into its identify of creating well-made, traditional-style brews, and is releasing another classic style this week. Flyway is putting out Kestrel Kolsch, the first kolsch beer the brewery has ever done. Kestrel Kolsch will be a light brew at 5.5 percent ABV with only slight hoppiness to give it some depth. Flyway hasn’t decided on a release day yet, but promises Kestrel Kolsch will be out this week. Also, Flyway’s Pintail IPA release from 10 days ago has been a huge success, so much so that the brewery is making a new batch this week of what was supposed to be a one-time offering.
Sometimes, a brewery tries something out of left field … and it actually works. Case in point, Rebel Kettle two weeks ago tried a beer yoga class with yoga instructor Valerie Talbert, almost on a whim. More than 50 people showed up, so they did it again this past Saturday, and now it’s back on a third time. Bring $10, your towel and yoga mat to Rebel Kettle for beer yoga Saturday morning. Doors open at 9 a.m., while the sessions starts at 10 a.m. Your first beer is included in the ticket price. For those wanting to just drink beer, make sure to check out Rebel Kettle’s 4:30 Thursday event featuring Central Arkansas Fermenters members Graham Linder and Kenneth Roberts. The two won the best of show award at the annual Outlaw Home Brew Competition in Hattiesburg, Miss. Lazy Magnolia brewed a large batch of the winning recipe, and Rebel Kettle is putting it on Thursday. The beer in question is a Russian imperial stout, and the brewery only has one slim keg of it, so make sure to arrive on time to give it a shot.
Stone’s Throw Brewing has a unique pairing event tonight with West End Cigars and Cocoa Belle Chocolates. The event starts in the biergarten tonight at 7 p.m. Each ticket gets you two cigars, four brews and some chocolate to help cleanse the palate. At last check, there were only eight tickets still available for this one, so if it sounds like your thing, hop on board now. Tickets are $60 a piece. Also this week for Stone’s Throw, the brewery’s #NewBrewFriday release is the return of its Decimal Hoppy Wheat, one of the brews Stone’s Throw had on tap in the opening months of its new business.
And as a final mention, if you want to check out what Bubba Brews has coming up in its new taproom, get your tickets for tomorrow’s tasting dinner in Hot Springs. Bubba Brews is opening up two new facilities this summer, so this event will be a great chance to preview what the brewing company has in store for us.
