Local Bakers Present "12 Days of Christmas" Cakes

The holidays wouldn’t be complete without plenty of seasonally themed food, especially desserts. But some bakers in Central Arkansas are taking that idea to a new level. Sweet Love, TracyCakes, PattiCakes Bakery, Natalie Madison’s Artisan Cakes, Blue Cake Company and Pulaski Tech’s culinary students have teamed up to create one cake for each of the 12 days of Christmas.
“They’re all fun, and they tell this cute little story,” says Kelli Marks of Little Rock’s Sweet Love. “Putting these together at Christmas time, we all had a blast doing it, and we hope that everybody enjoys it.”
The cakes themselves are technically dummies, though the only artificial element is the cake foundation itself. The fondant, royal icing and decorative elements are all the real thing, something Marks says shows the true talent of these bakers.
“You eat with your eyes first,” says Marks. “Even though this is technically dummies, we all have the skill to make those real cakes. You can actually order any of these cakes and get the real thing, and they’ll be just as beautiful.”
The cakes will go on display at the Miracle Ball benefiting Arkansas Children’s Hospital tomorrow. And while the cakes won’t be up for bidding, all the bakers are pitching in for one sweet auction item. Each baker is donating $100 worth of treats for a top-end dessert bar that the winner will get to use at a future event. All proceeds from the auction go to support Arkansas Children’s Hospital, which is as good a cause as there is.
