Oxford American, “A Magazine of the South” is proud to announce the Oxford American Presents 2015-2016 Concert Series at South on Main. This twelve-concert season features a select group of touring artists carefully chosen to create exceptional memorable experiences for audiences. The intimate atmosphere at South on Main offers a unique opportunity in Little Rock for these special concerts. Great consideration was taken in curating the season in an attempt to deliver the proper musical fit for the room’s listening environment.

The 2015-2016 Concert Series begins August 27 with Pokey LaFarge, and runs through May 12 with Jay Farrar. The season is divided into three series of four concerts each: Archetypes & Troubadours; Americana; and Jazz. Ticket packages go on sale May 20 via metrotix.com, or by calling (800) 293-5949. Pricing for all twelve shows ranges from $251 (general admission) to $399 (premium reserved seating). Tickets to individual concerts go on sale June 15. All concerts take place at South on Main (1304 Main Street).

Major sponsors include:
Ben E. Keith Foods Mid-South Division (presenting sponsor of Americana Series); UCA College of Fine Arts & Communication (presenting sponsor of Jazz Series); and The Summer Foundation. Additional season partners include the Arkansas Arts Council, Capital Hotel, Piano Kraft, Rosen Music Company, FM-89.1 KUAR, and Esse Purse Museum. Visit southonmain.com for full information.

The Archetypes & Troubadours Series features singular artists who each bend and blend musical genres. The series (and season) begins with the return of Pokey LaFarge on August 27, and continues with 83-year-old Mississippi bluesman Leo Bud Welch, who’ll be joined by songster Jimbo Mathus for an October 22 concert. The Nashville-based a cappella gospel group The Fairfield Four, long led by the late Rev. Sam McCrary, and perhaps best known for their work on the soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou?, performs March 10. Austin, Texas-based blues singer and guitarist Ruthie Foster, who was featured in the Oxford American’s Texas music issue last year, caps the series on April 7.

The Americana Series (presenting sponsor Ben E. Keith Foods Mid-South Division) is a mix of both fledging and established songwriters working in the American roots music tradition. The young Houston-born firebrand Lera Lynn kicks off the series September 24. On December 3, the Indigo Girls and Patterson Hood will perform an evening of Georgia music together in the round. This show is a benefit for the Oxford American in celebration of the magazine’s Georgia Music Issue, which hits newsstands on December 1. Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line continue the Series on February 18. Finally, legendary songwriter Jay Farrar (of Uncle Tupelo and SonVolt), a staple of the alt-country scene for two decades, plays on May 12.

The Jazz Series (presenting sponsor UCA College of Fine Arts & Communication) brings several new faces to Central Arkansas. Israeli clarinetist Anat Cohen performs September 3. In addition to leading her own ensembles, Cohen spent much of 2014 on the road with an all-star ensemble of jazz musicians with the Newport Now 60! tour, celebrating the iconic jazz festival’s 60th anniversary. Aaron Diehl, a Julliard-trained pianist, appears November 5 leading his own trio. On January 21, New Orleans-born saxophonist Victor Goines, a long-time member of Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and of Wynton Marsalis’s small ensembles, brings a quartet to town. Goines was at one time a student of Little Rock jazz bassist Bill Huntington, during his time at Loyola University in New Orleans. Trumpeter and vocalist Bria Skonberg closes the Jazz Series on March 17.
