There are plenty of events to fill you in on this coming weekend, starting with our favorite annual barbecue competition. B Street Rib Off is set for Saturday in Argenta. Starting at 11 a.m., you can get in from $10 and participate in the people’s choice award voting, as well as enjoying barbecue and live music. The event goes until 6 p.m., so there’s plenty of time to come out and enjoy the event. By the way, you can still sign up to compete as well. This is the ninth year for the B Street Rib Off. Remember, all money raised from the event is donated to the Arkansas chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Also this weekend is The Root’s 3rd Annual Traditional Pie Bake-Off and Recipe Swap. Bakers will bring their best pie to the competition, and after the judges get their taste, everyone will get a chance to try the entries. Anybody can enter; just bring your pie and several copies of your recipe to The Root by 4 p.m. The event is free for everyone.
The Pantry and Pantry Crest are holding a contest to name two of their new cocktails. Go to the Facebook page of either restaurant to see the two cocktails and submit a name idea. The winner for each cocktail gets a $50 gift card. One cocktail is made with El Dorado 12-Year rum, cherry herring, Carpano Antica and orange juice. The other is made with grapefruit- and lemongrass-infused Broker’s gin, lemon juice, orgeat and soda. Make sure to submit your name idea before midnight tonight to enter.
Speaking of Tomas Bohm’s restaurants, District Fare is now open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Eventually, Bohm wants the restaurant open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
It’s still a couple of weeks away, but congratulations are definitely in order for The Faded Rose coming up on its 35th anniversary celebration. In a business where most restaurants die in months instead of years, making it this long is a testament to the David family’s hard work and skill. To celebrate, The Faded Rose is holding its 35th Anniversary Crawfish Bash on Wednesday, May 10. There will be plenty of giveaways, t-shirts for sale, and of course crawfish. No tickets necessary, just show up and enjoy the festivities.
Speaking of Crawfish, AW Lins is holding a very unique type of crawfish boil on Saturday. They are theming it East Meets West, with traditional cajun boiled crawfish and a number of Asian influenced appetizers to go with it. Details here.
German food truck The Wunderbus will be at Dunbar Community Garden tomorrow night from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. for Music in the Garden, featuring Arkansas songwriter Sean Fresh. The Wunderbus has prepared a special menu for the evening featuring a couple of dishes with slow-cooked pork shoulder, as well as a strawberry-lemon pie on a brown sugar cookie crust. Tickets to the event are $5.

Ristorante Capeo’s weekly special is shrimp with bacon, tomatoes and rosemary in a white wine sauce. The risotto of the week is made with chicken and mushrooms.
