The ice cream collaboration between O’Looney’s and Loblolly last year was such a hit they are bringing it back. Word is all but one batch of the previous flavors sold out in less than a week, so they are working on making it a more permanent fixture in the store with some long term flavors. They are also working up several rotating boozy cocktails, and, most importantly, boozy push pops. They will also hold a flavor contest for a lucky guest to pick a boozy flavor themselves.
It is hard to believe that At the Corner is about to turn 2. In some ways it seems like they just opened yesterday, in other ways they fit so well into the landscape of Little Rock that they feel forever entrenched. Either way they are partying to celebrate the occasion (of course). April 20th is the date from 5-7. They will have beer, wine, and they are rolling out their new smoker for dinner. The amount of folks who love Karaoke in Little Rock always surprises me. If you fall in that category there are a couple of things to note. Dugan’s Karaoke night is celebrating their 5th year, which is remarkable and always draws a big crowd. Next Bistro and Bar is also bringing Karaoke to the masses on on Monday nights, something our resident Karaoke fiend reader says should be worth checking out.
Wine maker Peter Spann is coming to the state next week for a round of events. His Spann vineyards are known in the industry for one of the best quality wines at their price point. Spann will be at Crush Wine Bar Monday, O’Looney’s on Tuesday, and Stratton’s Market on Thursday all for tastings. They will also hold a wine dinner featuring his wines Thursday night at Stratton’s.
One of our favorite NWA beers is heading to Little Rock for a tap takover. South on Main will host an Ozark beer tap takeover Thursday from 5-7. Chef Matt Bell is cooking up some special bar menu items for the event.
Chef Donnie Ferneau is back cycling for hunger relief this year. He will participate again in the 300 mile ChefsCycle that takes place in California to raise money for No Kid Hungry. Riders are encouraged to join him on a 25-30 mile practice ride and brunch at 9:30 this Saturday at Murry Park. Afterward chef Amanda Ivy is holding a popup brunch for Saturday starting at 11:00 at Murry Park pavilion #2. Donation to Arkansas Team- Chefs Cycle/No Kid Hungry is suggested for those that just want to attend for the pop up brunch, riders can join in the practice run for $20 with included brunch.
The Faded Rose is ready to roll out with their crawfish/seafood boil truck that has been in the works for a bit. It will allow the Rose to do caterings all over town.
One of our favorite trucks Katmandu MoMo is going (sort of) brick and mortar. They will open their location in the River Market food court today. There should be some new menu items as well.
I noticed that the Benton location of Tacos 4 Life was coming along nicely last week in one of my few trips south of the border. It is expected to open next Monday and is located just off the Alcoa exit to the north.
We also have a new food truck in town. Cypress Knee Food is starting to book some events here and there. Owner Benjamin LaFoon’s truck will have various cajun options.
Four Quarter Bar in Argenta remains one of the most underrated food stops in downtown. They are rolling out some new menu items that we have heard good things about including a Cuban sandwich, smoked pork Chimichanga, and a Caprese sandwich with house made mozzarella.
Ciao Baci has a new spring menu out. This will also be the last release for manager David Shackelford, who has had a strong impact on building the restaurant as a Hillcrest food institution. Stop by and say farewell.
Loblolly is rolling out some special spring flavors over the next week at the soda fountain.
Honey Pies has a few items this week just for Easter that are selling out fast (so get an order in). Items include Cakes: red velvet, chocolate, strawberry, white, carrot and several pies.
