Rumbles: Bruno's Deli Delayed, Brown Sugar Sells at Outlets, Brunch at Blue Canoe

News
As we first reported on our Facebook page Tuesday, the grand opening for Bruno’s Deli downtown has been delayed. Owner Gio Bruno tells us the holiday weekend and some other factors made moving into the space on time impossible. He is now targeting next week for the opening, though the specific day has not yet been announced. When it opens, Bruno’s Deli will serve the lunch crowds with a menu of Italian soups, sandwiches and salads, as well as Italian grocery items like pasta, olives and cured meats.
Speaking of Bruno’s, the family is off on vacation and has closed Bruno’s Little Italy tonight and Thursday night. Bruno’s will reopen for Friday’s dinner service. Also this week, kBird in Hillcrest will only serve dinner this evening. The dinner special at kBird is the Pad Grapow served with holy basil grown in Arkansas.
Shoppers at Little Rock’s newest mall will be able to enjoy some freshly baked sweets on the weekend. Brown Sugar Bakeshop will be setting up its food trailer at The Outlets of Little Rock every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Sundays from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Brown Sugar will sell a rolling assortment of cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pudding and cheesecake at The Outlets. It is open through the week at its North Little Rock location on JFK Boulevard.
Blue Canoe Brewing Company is getting in on the brunch wave sweeping through Little Rock. The nanobrewery is serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 11 a.m. The menu includes Belgian waffle baskets and spent grain granola. Brunch is offered at both the taproom and Blue Canoe’s new Taco Beer Burrito, which is located next door to the brewery on 3rd Street.
Little Rock’s newest dessert food truck is growing up fast. We caught up with Mary Jo Sikkema to talk about the new Velvet Whisk Cheesecakery and what the truck has to offer.
One of the city’s most beloved bartenders is moving up in the world. We highlighted Jarrod Johnson’s new role with Yellow Rocket Concepts and what it means for fans of the company’s restaurants.
