After a host of delays, Bruno’s Deli will finally open its doors for its grand opening on Monday, August 8. Gio Bruno tells me the health department gave its final ok two days ago, knocking down the last hurdle in getting the deli open. For the rest of the week, Bruno will finish hiring and training staff on the Italian sandwiches, soups and salads the restaurant will be selling. Starting Monday, Bruno’s Deli will be open Monday through Friday starting at 11 a.m.
Within the next two weeks, the final reclaimed shipping containers will arrive at The Root Café to complete the massive expansion project that’s been going on for months. Five of the containers are already in place to create room for a new office, walk-in refrigerator and dining room. The last three containers will be used to create the new kitchen. Don’t forget, The Root is holding two dinners each month to prepare for its new service once construction is finished. The second Friday of every month is a ticketed, five-course dinner, while the fourth Friday is a standard table service, which the restaurant will incorporate for dinner in the future.
Less than a year after it first opened, La Terraza Rum and Lounge will hold its first rum dinner, featuring Guyanan rum El Dorado. The five-course dinner will be held a week from today on August 10 at both 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. La Terraza has impressed with its authentic Venezuelan cuisine since moving into the Hillcrest neighborhood last year. Tickets to the dinner are $55 and are available by calling 501-251-8261.
