It’s been out there for a couple of weeks, but Trio’s Restaurant owner Capi Peck this week officially declared her candidacy for Little Rock’s Board of Directors. Peck will be running in Ward 4 for the seat currently held by Brad Cazort. Peck has owned Trio’s for three decades now and has been actively involved in politics, serving on the Public Health Advisory Board and chairing the Little Rock Advertising and Promotion Commission.
Three Sams BBQ Joint now has a regular schedule for the concession trailer selling barbecue outside of the now-closed restaurant. Three Sams will be open from the trailer every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday starting at lunchtime and going until they run out of food. You remember last month Three Sams was destroyed in a fire that started in one of the smokers behind the restaurant. Since then, the business has gotten by through catering events, selling out of the trailer and support from the community.
The Filipino pop-up dinner we told you about last week now has a solid date and location. Chef Yana Gilbuena will bring her Salo Series pop-up dinner to the former 1620 Savoy space on Sunday, May 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are on sale now. Salo Series has held pop-up dinners in all 50 states, including last year here in Arkansas. The event features multiple courses served on banana leaves without any utensils. It’s a unique event that you should consider attending.
Red Door and Loca Luna chef and owner Mark Abernathy is heading to Georgia as a featured chef at the Atlanta Food and Wine Festival June 2–5. Abernathy will be teaching a class on cooking greens, both in the traditional southern style and in other unconventional methods. Abernathy joins Scott Baker and Rob Nelson from Bentonville’s Tusk and Trotter as Arkansas’ representatives at the event.
In case you didn’t already know, Little Rock’s biggest food festival is back this weekend. The 32nd International Greek Food Festival returns Friday through Sunday at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. We got a sneak peak of some of the new food that will be served at the event.

May 20th 2016 Arkansas Greek Food Festival – Easily Little Rock’s most popular food festival, the event features plenty of Greek food as well as other Mediterranean dishes. Admission is free, though the food and many entertainment offerings must be purchased.
May 21st Hot Springs Craft Beer Festival – The festival will celebrate its third year with beers from all over Arkansas and beyond. Tickets are $30 for general admission and $55 for VIP access.
May 21st Dunbar Community Garden Pig Roast – Several Little Rock chefs will team up for this whole pig roast at Dunbar. Tickets are $50 and seating is limited.
May 23rd Sushi Class at Stone’s Throw Brewing Company – This two-hour beginner’s course will teach about properly preparing sushi rice, how to handle the sushi, how to roll and how to make sure your raw sushi is safe. Tickets are $40 and are on sale now.
June 10th Feast in the Field – Annual fundraiser for Heifer International, spotlighting the importance of operating using zero waste. Tickets start at $150 and sponsorship levels are still available.
June 11th Argenta Farmers Market 9th Anniversary Celebration – The market will celebrate its ninth year with several events, including a food truck challenge using produce from market vendors. Admission is free.
