Cheese dip lovers, your weekend is here. The World Cheese Dip Championship celebrates its seventh year on Saturday at the Clinton Presidential Center in downtown Little Rock. Fourteen professional and amateur competitors will bring out their best melted cheese app for the judges and the crowd. Tickets to the event are $10, with proceeds going to benefit Harmony Health Clinic. Last year’s champion was Heights Taco & Tamale Co., which won’t be able to compete this year as Scott McGehee and his team are busy opening Big Orange and Local Lime in Rogers. The event kicks off at noon and goes until 3 p.m.
Somebody needs to pick up a health inspector and take them to Three Sams BBQ Joint so it can open again. The restaurant has been ready to go for three weeks now but has been unable to get an inspector on site to give the thumbs up. The latest word from Three Sams is that an inspector is due on the scene Friday, so fingers crossed it will open next week. You remember Three Sams had to rebuild from a fire that destroyed the restaurant back in March of last year. Since then, Three Sams has been operating out of a concession trailer in its parking lot; that trailer is open for lunch today through Friday.
The Capital Hotel will host a unique brunch experience on Sunday when it welcomes Nathalie Lecroc, a French artist who is known for her drawings of women’s and men’s handbags. For nearly two decades, Lecroc has been working to draw 1,001 handbags and their contents, and during the brunch she will draw one of her final illustrations. If you want Lecroc to draw your purse, you can enter a raffle for $25 from now until Friday. The winner will be drawn at an event at the ESSE Purse Museum and Store Friday night. Tickets to the brunch are $48 and are on sale now.
Come celebrate Central Arkansas beer, wine and spirits tomorrow evening at the two-year anniversary party of Locally Labeled. This is a promotional campaign run by the convention and visitor bureaus of Little Rock and North Little Rock that encourages people to try all of the area’s breweries and other beverage businesses. The Locally Labeled party starts tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m. at the River Market Pavilion. Admission is free, as are samples of drinks; you will be able to purchase full-size pours as well. The event will also feature live music from The Brian Nehlan Band.
