Rumbles: Cupcakes for Goodness Sake, La Terraza Owner Buys Graffiti's, Three Sams Almost There

Get ready for a sweet Saturday in Argenta this weekend at the third annual Cupcakes for Goodness Sake fundraiser event. From 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., you’ll get to try cupcakes from professional bakers like Old Mill Bread Company and Blue Sail, as well as eight amateur bakers. In all, there will be more than 4,800 cupcakes at the event. If that sounds too sweet to you, The Clean Eatery and Black Hound BBQ food trucks will both be there providing some savory fare. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children (goes up to $12 and $7 at the gate). Cupcakes for Goodness Sake is the annual fundraiser event for Carelink, a nonprofit that works to support older people and their caregivers.
We are running a week long television segment highlighting local restaurants with THV11 airing on their 10pm newscast. Last night we highlighted food trends in the city, focusing on Nexus Coffee, Heart Hospital, and Yellow Rocket Concepts. Tonight we will look at creative food, spaces, and drinks around Little Rock. Tomorrow we shift our focus to historic locations in the city. Finally we wrap things up on the Friday noon show with a live segment. Be sure to tune in, this is the largest concentrated effort by local television to highlight the local food scene that we are aware of. Here is the first segment.
The ownership of La Terraza Rum and Lounge has purchased longtime Little Rock Italian restaurant Graffiti’s. Sarah Bolanos tells us her husband Armando bought the Cantrell Road spot earlier this month. Earlier reports had incorrectly identified former Graffiti’s owner Patrick Dayer as having bought the business. In addition to its Venezuelan fare, La Terraza features a Mediterranean section on its menu with several pasta dishes, so there is some experience in place for this type of cooking. Don’t expect wholesale changes just yet; the plan is to gradually adjust the menu to attract new customers while keeping the regulars happy. Graffiti’s was opened in the late 1980’s by Paul Bash after his legacy Restaurant Jacques and Suzanne closed.
The “Tasty Reads” contest that is a part of the Banned Books week at the Central Arkansas Library system is still looking for a few entries. The goal is to create an edible item (cake, pie, or any type of dish really) that ties into a book in their banned books list. It is free to enter with all sorts of prizes, including $300 and a $80 gift card to Whole Foods for the winner. Check out the rules and details here.
We’ve been anxiously updating you for months now on the status of Three Sams BBQ Joint, and it looks like the restaurant is on the verge of opening. This past weekend, crews sealed the concrete floors, allowing the staff to move in kitchen equipment and get the dining room finished. Now all that remains is final health inspections and for owner Annette Jones to let us know when the opening date is. Three Sams was destroyed in a fire in March 2016 that started in one of the restaurant’s smokers. Nobody was hurt, but the building had to be gutted, and the building’s location next to the train tracks meant a lot of red tape before reaching this point.
Three Fold Noodles and Dumpling Co. has completed its long-awaited move to Main St. We got in before opening day to check out the beautiful new look and find out what will be different from its former spot on Center St.
I can personally attest to the excellence that is the new South on Main bar menu. Check it out to see why this should be your late-night dining destination.
