If you’re looking for a party this weekend, look no further than 3rd Street in front of Dugan’s Pub downtown. Dugan’s is partnering with Lost Forty Brewing for its seventh annual block party on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. This year’s party is headlined by Marion’s Barrett Baber, who rose to fame on season nine of NBC’s The Voice. There will be plenty of other music, too, as well as Irish dance performances. And of course, you can expect plenty of food and beer. Admission to the block party is free.
Spring is coming quickly, which means you’re about to start seeing plenty of fresh Arkansas produce at farmers markets and restaurants around town. But Scott McGehee is already working with one locally harvested specimen. Zaza has acquired 20 pounds of Arkansas morels and is putting them on a special pizza. McGehee has paired the morels with leeks, thyme, lemon, crème fraîche and three different cheeses. Obviously, these morels won’t last long, so for a first taste of Arkansas mushroom season, you’ll want to get to Zaza very soon.
We have two new openings in Central Arkansas to tell you about this week. Long a fixture at farmers markets, Dark Side Coffee is holding a crowd-sourced fundraiser to open in a permanent location in North Little Rock. It’s the same building where Brown Sugar Bakeshop once operated on JFK Boulevard. The facility has two drive-thru windows, which will be ideal for serving the morning rush. And Will’s Cinnamon Shop is moving from a cottage-law establishment to a full-service bakery on Central Avenue in Hot Springs. Will’s specializes in cinnamon rolls and other bread products. They are hoping for an early summer opening.
Warmer weather is moving in, and that means food trucks are firing up the generators and getting out again. Katmandu Momo is back from its winter sabbatical, which included a trip to Nepal for owners Kyler and Saroja. Katmandu Momo will be at 1 Allied Dr. today from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and the same hours tomorrow at the Arkansas Department of Health.
District Fare has officially joined Facebook, taking over the page of the former Hillcrest Artisan Meats. Owner Tomas Bohm is keeping the page updated with construction photos and staff introductions. When it opens, District Fare will sell sandwiches and soups, as well as plenty of foodstuffs to take home and cook. Bohm still hopes to have the space open by the end of this month.
There’s just no way around it: warmer weather means more trips to Loblolly. We took a look this week at what Little Rock’s best ice cream shop has planned for its spring menu.
Did you know there’s a 23-year-old chef in charge of one of the city’s most popular restaurants? We stopped by So Restaurant to chat with Cody Rudd, who’s putting his spin on one of Little Rock’s most beloved dining destinations.
