Rumbles: Honey Pies Grand Opening, Preserve Arkansas Mix-Off Winner, The Pizzeria Moving Saturday

News
Honey Pies will hold its grand opening celebration on Saturday, August 6. The pie shop has been open for business for a couple of weeks now, but this will mark the official kickoff event for Sharon Woodson’s business. As part of the party, Ken Dempsey will be on hand making lunch for customers. In addition to its excellent pies, Honey Pies offers brownies, cupcakes, muffins and Loblolly ice cream.
Congratulations to bartender Rob Armstrong of The Fold and Raduno. Armstrong won the Preserve Arkansas Master Mix-Off this past weekend. Armstrong created a honey-Tabasco cocktail based on his Mississippi heritage for his first drink, and a mezcal and amaro tipple served with a burnt marshmallow for his winning entry. Congratulations also go to Dillon Garcia of The Pizzeria at Terry’s Finer Foods for winning the people’s choice award.
Speaking of which, this Friday will be your last chance to eat at The Pizzeria at Terry’s Finer Foods. Starting Saturday, Jacquelyn and Jeremy Pittman will begin packing up the restaurant to move it down the road near the intersection of Kavanaugh and Cantrell Rd. The new restaurant will give The Pizzeria a big upgrade in seating capacity. The Pizzeria at Terry’s Finer Foods opened in November 2014 and quickly became one of the city’s better pizza options. We don’t know exactly how long the move will take, but The Pizzeria will definitely be closed for at least a few weeks.
JJ’s Grill’s opening day of its Little Rock location has been postponed to August 18. A spokeswoman with the company says a delay in getting the restaurant’s liquor license approved kept it from opening this month. JJ’s has locations in several Northwest Arkansas cities as well as Conway. The Little Rock restaurant will serve classic American fast-casual food and will be located in the former Another Round spot on Bowman Road.
Mugs Café in Argenta is adding to its beverage options in August. The popular coffee house has applied for its native beer permit and hopes to have it finalized by August 17. Once the permit is ready, Mugs plans on selling bottles and cans only to start, starting with Lost Forty Brewing beer.
One of the year’s biggest parties is this coming weekend. The 2016 Block on Rock will celebrate the third birthday of Stone’s Throw Brewing. Our weekly Growlers feature has all the details of the big bash.
Trio’s Restaurant is starting to make a name for itself in the cocktail department. Our own Mauren Kennedy stopped by to check out bartender Merrick Fagan’s new menu.
