Rumbles: Lunch Returns to Kemuri, Arktoberfest this Weekend, and more

Welcome to Rumbles, your weekly source for food news, events, and specials going on in Little Rock. This week is overflowing with news and events, many of which include specials.

News

Rock City and AY – The most common question we get (aside from where to eat) is asking when we will do a print publication. The simple answer is we are not for a variety of well thought out reasons, but we do value a print component to what we do. Starting this month we will feature a section in AY magazine for Rock City Eats, this month some of our favorite places to eat around the state. We picked AY to partner with because we really like the recent direction they are heading in and they have a broad readership across the state. AY also has a sister publication, Arkansas Money and Politics, that we will partner with from time to time as well. This month features an article highlighting some of the work we do through social media. Pick up a copy of both around LR and NWA.
Lunch at Kemuri – Lunch is back at Kemuri in Hillcrest after a brief hiatus. The menu features a good mix of items that are both new to the menu and adaptations of dinner options, and all at a reasonable lunch price. We are glad to see the return of tacos from the previous lunch menu and the addition of steamed buns this time around. Hopefully lunch is here to stay, go check it out. Lunch runs 11:00am – 2:00pm Monday – Friday.
Food Trucksgiving Returns – We are wrapping up the details on our annual food truck event in Bryant, but the date is Saturday November 14th. We will return to FUMC Bryant on Reynolds Road. More details to come, but trust us, this year is going to be awesome.

Events

October 10th Arktoberfest (Arkadelphia) – This will feature tons of craft beer and food. Should be a really great festival for the city. Rock City Eats is hosting an appetizer competition so if you are feeling competitive get out.
October 10th Six Bridges Steak Cookoff (NLR) – Six Bridges will bring many of the country’s top champion steak cooking teams into town. While this is a cooking competition first they do feature a steak dinner where your steak is guaranteed to be cooked by a former world champion. They are also partnering with Chef Shuttle to deliver steaks for those who do not want to venture out. Info is here.
October 11 Cupcakes for Goodness Sake – Local bakeries Blue Cake Company, Cupcakes on Kavanagh, Dempsey Bakery and Sweet Love are joining together in the fight against senior hunger with a unique cupcake face-off. Cupcakes for Goodness Sake, a new event benefiting the CareLink Meals on Wheels program, will challenge local bakeshops to present all-sweet, cupcake versions of Meals on Wheels. Attendees can sample a variety of cupcakes and sweets from all the bakeries involved. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 4-12
October 17th Chili Fights in the Heights –  This annual event enters it’s 6th year on Kavanaugh in the Heights.  The casual chili competition brings lots of good chili and good times. All of the net proceeds go to support the Arkansas Foodbank.
October 19th Governor’s Culinary Challenge – Great culinary event supporting the Thea Foundation that is a combination of gourmet bites and top-tiered drinks prepared by local chefs and mixologists, along with the jazz of Dr. Danny Fletcher and company – is in its third year and will take place at the Capital Hotel on Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. Read about it.
October 29th The Next Course – Another great event, this one benefiting Youth Home and held at the Clinton Presidential center. Five course dinner that features dishes from Stephen Burrow, Gilbert Alaquinez, and Anne Wood of Forty Two, as well as a course from Chef Shane Henderson from Ben E Keith. We sat in on a prep round for all of these and I promise you will not be disappointed. Tickets are $125, purchase here.
November 2nd No Kid Hungry Dinner – I’ve said it before, but if you make one charity dinner all year, make this one. Amazing food and an amazing cause. Just do it, purchase tickets.
