Rumbles: Mary Steenburgen Coming to Town, Mac N Cheez Mania Was a Success, Crawfish Boil Set, New Beer from Moody Brews

South on Main will be hosting Mary & Friends, which benefits the Oxford American, on May 15 at 7 p.m. Join Mary Steenburgen and friends for an evening of music, bites, and spirits. Last weekend’s Mac N Cheez Mania at War Memorial Stadium was a hit with festival-goers. “The inaugural Mac N Cheez Mania sold out … 1,000 tickets were printed and over 1,300 spoons had been given out by 12:15,” says Trinity United Methodist Church’s Pastor, Rev. Betsy Singleton Snyder. Winners included: 1st Place: Holy Smokers, 2nd Place: Earthen Vessel Class, 3rd Place: Matt Paulus; People’s Choice: Matt Paulus; Best Booth: Matt Paulus.
This from Josiah Moody, brewmaster/owner of Moody Brews: “I have a new Moody Brews beer on tap at Damgoode Pies in the River Market. Its a Cuban coffee inspired brown ale. Which is to say, a malty brown ale base with lactose added (an ode to the condensed milk portion) aged on espresso roasted coffee beans. On tap now!” Moody is calling the new beer Cuban Pull (5.9% abv).
The Preservation Crustaceans event is set for Thursday, May 5 at Argenta Plaza (520 Main St, NLR). A VIP reception is from 5-6 p.m. with general admission at 6 p.m. “Preservation Crustaceans has grown from a backyard gathering in 2001 to the HPAA’s most-anticipated Arkansas Heritage Month event. Now back at its very first location in the Argenta neighborhood of North Little Rock, and still serves all-you-can-eat crawfish and shrimp, potatoes, and corn on the cob – plus beer and sodas.” Tickets can be purchased here.
Local farmers markets are in full swing. The Hillcrest Farmers Market is on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m.-noon at 2200 Kavanaugh Blvd. The Argenta Farmers Market (520 Main St, NLR) is from 7 a.m.-noon on Saturdays. Finally, the Bernice Garden Farmer’s Market is on Sundays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 1401 S. Main St. Please consider attending any or all of these markets and help support local growers and business owners.
Many of your favorite food trucks will be at Crossfit Legit (3309 Winchester Drive) in Benton on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Beast, Hot Rod Wieners, Waffle Wagon, The Southern Gourmasian, Katmandu MoMo, Fork in the Road, Southern Salt, Lobolly Creamery, and The Pie Hole will all be there.
Little Rock’s first India Fest will be held April 19 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. in downtown’s River Market Pavilion. Entry is free. Come out and enjoy Indian food, entertainment and plenty of shopping.
