Rumbles: Shaved Ice at Three Fold, Opening at Cypress Social, Update on Cathead's, Maddie's Place Reopens

Hey everyone, we have been a little behind with regular Rumble’s updates due to a flurry of closings and reopenings dominating our food coverage and it was easier to manage that through the Facebook page. Continue to check there for any updates on COVID related news as we get back to our regularly scheduled updates. If you have restaurant news or updates to pass along, email me at greg@rockcityeats.com and I will include it in next week.
Three Fold Launches Shaved Ice – Their new dessert option is just from the mobile location in Riverdale, but it looks to be perfect for the summer. You have a choice between classic shaved ice and a shaved ice made from their frozen bubble tea. Along with that there are several flavoring options featuring different fruits and sweet red bean along with toppings and creams.
Cypress Social Sets Opening Date – The date is going to be August 18th for the Cypress Social in North Little Rock. Cypress is the next big concept from the Keet family (Petit & Keet, Taziki’s) and was originally set to launch this past spring but saw the date pushed back due to COVID. It takes over the old Cock of the Walk building on Maumelle Boulevard. We did a walk through during the construction phase back in March and it was shaping up to be a beautiful restaurant. We hope to have a first look at this soon.
Cathead’s Diner Update – You may recall we broke the news about Cathead’s Diner permanently closing last week. In it we discussed a credible rumor we were hearing that the owners of McClard’s BBQ were looking to merge with the property and convert it to a McClard’s location. We finally got an update from Beasley properties and they are no longer pursuing the Cathead’s space. So the eventual fate of it is still up in the air for now.
Local Union to become Charlee’s Good Time Drinkery – The Local Union located in the Prospect Building on University has been up for sale for some time now. We have word that the new concept is going to be called Charlee’s Good Time Drinkery. The concept is going to be a dive bar with quality, handcrafted food. It will also retain the 5 am license for the location and serve food up until close. We will have a preview of the spot next week.
Rock n Roll Sushi in SOMA Update – The small sushi chain Rock n Roll Sushi that is going into the old Atlas Bar location in SOMA is delaying opening just slightly. It was originally set to open today, but speaking with them this morning they are pushing opening back until next week sometime due to some delays in equipment. No exact date is set yet, but we will post that along when we are updated.
Maddie’s Place Open – Maddie’s Place in Riverdale has been closed since the initial COVID closings has finally opened back up as of yesterday. They are allowing dine-in and have taken a number of precautions such as barriers between seats.
Four Quarter Opens and Goes Non-Smoking – Four Quarter Bar in Argenta has also opened up after being closed. They are taking a number of precautions too including a new air ionizer meant to neutralize any COVID particles in the air. What may be the biggest change though is that they have gone non-smoking inside the building. Guests are free to smoke on the back patio, but the change will make a huge difference in the experience of Four Quarter.
Heifer Cafe to Become Contigo – The Heifer Cafe switched contracts and will now be named Contigo. Taking over the restaurant will be the Case Family (Sauced, Samanthas, East 6th Brewing). No word on opening.
