Sterling Market Coming Next Year to East Village by Fidel & Co Team

If you have stopped in for a cup of coffee at Fidel & Co in East Village lately, you would have noticed a fair amount of work going on across the street at the former Cathead’s Diner location. We are finally able to reveal that the team from Fidel & Co are behind the new concept to be called Sterling Market, set to open next year in the late Spring.

The idea behind Sterling Market is a food hall type concept with multiple stations that you can visit within the same area. They plan to have a artisan butcher, grab and go goods, a deli/sandwich station, a pizza station, and a bakery. The setup will feature a full bar, inside dining, and large patio spaces around the building.

Paige Russell-Burt and John Burt will both transition from the Fidel & Co kitchen to lead the pastry and head chef positions at Sterling Market.

“We are determined to create a fun culinary experience that is driven by all things local, high quality and sustainable,” says owner Fidel Samour. “Between chefs, food and locally made goods, Sterling Market will be a one stop shop to gather, celebrate, relax and unwind.”

The name Sterling Market comes from the former use of the building, the Sterling Paint Factory. They wanted to pay homage to the warehouse district roots of East Village while creating something unique to the area that can be a cornerstone for future development.

Along with the various market stations, Sterling Market hopes to offer frequent popup dinners and takeovers with local culinary talent.

The target date for opening is Spring of 2022. We will continue to bring updates as work progresses on the space and an opening date is set.

Partnering with head chef, John Burt, and pastry chef, Paige Russell-Burt, the restaurant will host four different food options that include a butcher shop, a greens/sandwiches station, an artisan pizza station, a bakery, a full bar as well as a grab and go area that will offer to-go food and locally made goods. In addition to the wide variety of food selections Sterling Market looks to host ‘kitchen takeovers,’ inviting chefs to use the restaurant’s premises to showcase their favorite dishes.
