In a lot of ways, Stone’s Throw Brewing kicked off the current craft beer movement in Little Rock when they opened their brewery back in 2013. Over the next 8 years they committed to staying a small community brewery, anchored by their intimate brewery and tap room on 9th street in downtown and their second tap room that opened last year in Stifft Station.
The one thing that has always been a little more difficult is enjoying their beer at home. They have offered growlers from the beginning, expanded to crowlers (32oz canned growlers) a few years ago, and limited bottles last year. Now with the introduction of pint cans you can enjoy it anywhere.
“We have wanted to add cans options to our beers for some time now,” co-founder Ian Beard tells us. “We have unfortunately ran into the issue a lot of other breweries had during the pandemic, which is procuring aluminum cans. Now that we have those we are ready to ramp up production.”
The initial can run will be their top two year around beers, Shamus Oatmeal Stout and their Guava Pear Cider. These will be available in 4 packs inside both tap rooms initially with wider distribution coming later to liquor stores and restaurants.
They also hope to expand offerings eventually as well. As a small brewery they are limited in production, so future releases are always dependent on what else is being brewed and going out the door, but they were able to give us an idea of future release plans.
“The next cans we’re planning at this point are the Amadeus Vienna Lager followed by Dirty 7 *Gluten Reduced* IPA,” director of operations Megan Wylie says. “I can’t really nail down a timeline as far as expanding the selections, those releases will kind of be volume dependent.”
Cans, along with a number of seasonal bottles are available at both the 402 E 9th street brewery and the 3015 W. Markham Stifft Station tap room. In addition to the pre-packaged options most beers on tap can be made into a crowler to go.
