With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, local ice cream maker Loblolly Creamery has a ton of news to announce.
“We’ll have limited edition sweet Valentine Day flavors for the month of February debuting Sunday, February 1st,” says owner Sally Mengel. “This will include Roasted Cherry Chocolate, a concentrated milk chocolate with pockets of tart and tangy roasted cherries. Also, our Rosy Strawberry Sorbet is a juicy strawberry sorbet that isn’t merely rose-colored. It also has a rose-infusion, which combines so beautifully with strawberries that its flavor seems like an extension of the fruit. Finally, KABF PB & Jams, inspired by the local tunes of KABF Community Radio, is a harmonious mix of salty, velvety peanut butter ice cream with a fragrant, tart ribbon of our house-made muscadine jam. A perfect combination. A portion of the sales of the flavor will benefit KABF 88.3 Community Radio.”
Apparently, Loblolly Creamery will also work with South on Main’s pastry chef Matt Lowman on a “love-themed, chef collaborative flavor.” This mystery flavor will pop up on South on Main’s dessert menu and be available for scoops at Loblolly Creamery’s ice cream bar inside The Green Corner Store & Soda Fountain. Tune into South on Main and Loblolly Creamery’s Facebook pages for flavor announcements and sweet dessert updates.
Frozen novelty treats like ice cream piecakes, 7-layer ice cream bars, and candy bar inspired ice cream sandwiches will be debuting on February 1st for pre-orders and in Loblolly’s take-home case at the soda fountain.
Currently, the soda fountain contains ten flavors (including two dairy-free) of ice cream, as well as house-made mallows, decadent hot chocolates with mix-ins from nutella to house-made lavender syrup, along with herbal teas, dark chocolate brownies, and Mountain Bird coffee floats.
And what can we expect in the near future?
“We are ready to shake the frost, put our coats away, and say hello to our farmers again at the Saturday markets. Springtime is a vibrant, fresh season full of inspiration. Look in March for a floral, colorful, and Southern celebration theme of flavors with inspirations from spring cakes, fresh herbs, tangy buttermilk, and a take on the classic Derby cocktails,” says Mengel. “We’re also excited to announce that we will be starting a monthly collaboration with our local chef friends. Each month we will team up with a super, amazing chef and create an ice cream flavor that reflects their cooking. The ice cream will be a limited-time, month-long flavor that you can find at the chef’s restaurant and at the Loblolly Ice Cream Bar.”
