The Root Hosts "Traditional Pie Bake-Off" With Food Network's Simon Majumdar

Food Network’s Simon Majumdar will be visiting Little Rock next week in support of his new book, Fed, White, and Blue: Finding America with My Fork. His trip will include a number of events, including an appearance at the Arkansas Literary Festival and visiting with culinary students at Pulaski Tech.
On Sunday, April 26th, the fine folks at The Root will be hosting Majumdar and they’re throwing one seriously sweet event…The 2015 Traditional Pie Bake-Off and Recipe Swap. Root owner Jack Sundell says he “wanted to give Majumdar a taste of traditional Arkansas,” …and what better way to do that than with pie?
The event is open to the public and any and all pie makers are encouraged to enter. For all you bakers, simply whip up your best “traditional” pie and bring it to The Root (1500 S. Main) on Sunday, April 26th at 4 pm. Pre-registration is preferred (by calling 414-0423 or emailing theroot@theroot.com)…but this is not absolutely required. Participants are also encouraged to bring copies of their pie recipe to exchange with others at the event.
Majumdar will serve on a panel of judges made up of other local food writers including Kat Robinson (Tie Dye Travels), Michael Roberts (Arkansas Times), and myself. We’ll be awarding 5 blue ribbons and a one “best-in-show” award. Prizes will be given to all winners. Sync’s Emily Van Zandt will emcee the event and Little Rock Foodcast’s Steve Shuler will be interviewing Majumdar after we’ve all stuffed ourselves with copious amounts of pie.
Personally, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I hope you’ll all plan on joining us. For more information, call or email The Root.
