Typically every year we do a roundup of places to eat on Thanksgiving. To be honest in our 7 years that list does not change much. This year we decided to shift our focus a bit.
Perhaps you had to sit through two hours of pretending to eat green bean casserole while listening to Aunt Alice’s nonsense about how her favorite politician is the chosen one. Maybe your favorite cousin who you never see finally came to town. Or maybe you just want to pull up a stool with people who also need a place to escape. Either way you need a drink this Thanksgiving, and there are some great neighborhood dives that have you covered.
Atlas: 8pm – Midnight – SoMa
Atlas may be the new kid in SoMa but it has quickly carved out a spot in the surrounding downtown neighborhood. They will have a full cocktail menu and limited snack options on Thanksgiving.
Pizzeria: 6pm – 10pm – Heights
Yes, the Pizzeria is a restaurant, but they also have one of the best cocktail lineups in town. They will have the full bar open along with a full food menu if you get hungry.
Midtown Billiards: 6pm – 5am – SoMa
Midtown is a mainstay on Thanksgiving, this year is no exception. They will naturally take full advantage of their 5am license for anyone needing to pre-drink to deal with black Friday as well.
Pizza D: 2pm – 2am – Stifft Station
The D is like a beautifully dysfunctional family, so it makes sense to slide in there on Thanksgiving, assuming that is not against your morals. They are doing a Thanksgiving potluck that night as well, in case you need a better family to spend Thanksgiving with.
Four Quarter: 6pm – 2am – Argenta
Four Quarter is open for those downtown and north of the river who need a good drink. They will also have a Thanksgiving potluck beginning at 7, so bring a dish if you want to participate.
Proof: 8pm – 1am – Hillcrest
Proof is a hot spot on Thanksgiving for folks in Hillcrest. They will have a full drink menu flowing and plenty of friends to share it with.
Flying Saucer: 5pm – Midnight – Downtown
The Saucer has understood your need for a drink since opening in the 90’s. Thanksgiving is as good of time as any to work on your next plate on the wall.
The Fountain: 6pm – 2am – Hillcrest
The Fountain is set up to serve all your dive bar needs in Hillcrest this year.
